I have a lot of experience with Autism and ADHD both personally (family members including some of my children and one parent who are Autistic and ADHD) and professionally (I have many Autistic and ADHD clients). I believe in taking each person as they come and identifying areas in their life where they need support and can grow.

I have never been diagnosed but from the research I have undertaken and from observing my own family members, I recognise behaviours in me that are characteristic of both Autism and ADHD.

Many of my clients find it easier to work outside my office and we often have bushwalking or beachwalking sessions. Other clients prefer my office and we have sessions there.

I use a range of media in my sessions. Movement, art, sandplay (for those who don’t mind their hands in the sand), symbols, and mindfulness are some of the tools I use.

My focus is on identifying areas of executive functioning and life skills that need building up. I also work with anxiety.

I believe in taking things slowly and at a pace that suits the individual.

I adopt a “yarning” or conversational approach with clients. Within that conversation I work slowly and gently, in a non threatening and affirming manner, to assist with areas of skill development.

I have both a Master and Bachelor of Counselling. In my Masters Degree my research project was on the experience of autism and supports needed for both the autistic individual and their parents/significant others. As a result, I have undertaken extensive research on autism and have continued that research. I have also gained a deeper understanding of the issues affecting autistic individuals and their families. I  continue to learn about those issues and devise ways to help with my clients.

Training/Certification of note: Master of Counselling, Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling), Blue Knot Foundation Trauma Modules, Attwood and Garnett Training Modules

Approach

I understand Autism as a way the brain works. Every person is an individual and everyone has areas of brain function that result in them functioning differently. A person with Autism may work differently to what is considered typical, but in my experience everyone I see works in their own individual way.

I understand that being neurodivergent means you are not well understood and childhood is difficult. It is not unusual to feel left out and to not understand what is going on with the social nuances required in relationships. Many neurodivergent individuals develop anxiety and struggle with self worth because of a childhood spent trying to fit in.

Self regulation is also an area where there is often a need to develop greater skills. This assists with helping with anxiety and increases the individual's sense of empowerment and self worth.

This was the most incredible workshop. Never done anything like this before, but will definitely do it again. 10/10 really great for small groups of friends and I wholeheartedly encourage anyone to get a group together and book a time with Nan.

What a beautiful workshop. I attended Nan Cameron’s 3-hour Paint Your Soul workshop today, intrigued and open to see what painting my soul might look like. Nan guided us through a transitioning series of peaceful meditative and creative processes, conversation and shared reflections. The intimate workshop was time well spent, a practice of self-love and opportunity to tap into the essence of our creator spirit using watercolours. Thank you Nan.
