Little TheraPeas is a neurodiverse affirming Sunshine Coast paediatric therapy clinic offering Occupational Therapy (OT) and Therapy Assistant services delivered from our Little Mountain (Aura/Caloundra) clinic. We also offer off site (home, school and kindy) visits when needed.

Our passion is to help little peas and their families reach independence and success throughout their lives. Our focus is to build a supportive, fun and friendly environment which emphasises building a positive relationship with each little pea and their families. This helps get the most out of therapy to achieve each little pea’s goals and make a difference to their life and in turn the families life. Our therapists offer a large range of services including Safe and Sound Protocol, sensory interventions, feeding therapy, toileting, trauma-informed and DIR/Floortime sessions.

We also have therapy assistants who run therapist directed programs and groups that provide value for money options for family support and to achieve goals sooner.

Our team at Little TheraPeas has completed extensive professional development across a range of evidence-based and neurodevelopmentally informed therapeutic approaches. These include:

  • DIR®/Floortime training — supporting relationship-based, play-focused therapy and parent coaching
  • Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) certification — a polyvagal-informed listening program designed to support regulation, connection, and social engagement
  • Sensory Processing and Modulation Interventions — training across multiple evidence-based frameworks including the Astronaut Program, Quickshifts, Ayres Clinical Observations, and Structured Observations of Sensory Integration
  • Attachment and trauma-informed practice — integrated across all service delivery to prioritise safety, trust, and co-regulation.
  • NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment and Report Writing — advanced training in clinical reasoning and documentation aligned with NDIS legislative criteria.
  • Our therapists participate in regular clinical supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development in neurodiversity-affirming practice, early development, and family-centred care.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals:

At Little TheraPeas, we understand autism as a neurodevelopmental difference. Not a disorder to be “fixed,” but a unique way of experiencing, processing, and interacting with the world. We recognise that every autistic individual has their own profile of strengths, challenges, sensory preferences, and communication styles. Our approach is grounded in the social model of disability and informed by neurobiological, developmental, and trauma-informed frameworks. We prioritise understanding why behaviours occur, rather than trying to change them, and we view regulation, safety, and relationships as the foundation for all growth.

We design every aspect of our service around the principles of autonomy, respect, and partnership. Our therapists engage in ongoing professional development in neuro-affirming practice, sensory processing, and relationship-based approaches such as DIR/Floortime and co-regulation frameworks.

In sessions, this means:
- Following the individual’s lead and interests to build connection and intrinsic motivation.
- Avoiding compliance-based or reward-punishment systems.
- Using clear, predictable routines and visual supports to enhance safety and understanding.
- Collaborating closely with families, educators, and support networks to create consistency and reduce demands that cause distress.
- Writing goals using identity-first, strengths-based language that aligns with NDIS and neurodiversity-affirming values.

We encourage authentic self-expression in every form; whether that’s through movement, scripting, quietness, parallel play, or stimming. Our therapy environments are intentionally flexible and sensory-considerate, offering movement, deep pressure, fidget tools, and quiet spaces for regulation.

We actively invite clients (and their families) to share what helps them feel safe and regulated. This includes sensory accommodations (e.g. preferred lighting and sounds), to respecting all forms of communication. Autistic identity is celebrated, not hidden: we affirm that self-advocacy, special interests, and stimming are valuable parts of expression. We also coach parents and educators to recognise and respond to sensory and emotional cues, supporting children to build interoceptive awareness and confidence in advocating for their needs.

Rebecca went above and beyond in reviewing my report for a client. Her depth of knowledge, attention to detail, and clear, practical feedback made a huge difference and genuinely strengthened the report. I felt far more confident knowing the work had been reviewed by someone with such strong expertise and care. Rebecca was incredibly generous with her time and support, and her guidance was invaluable throughout the process. I would not hesitate to recommend her to other OTs and will absolutely be reaching out again for future support. Thank you, Rebecca!

We have been going for a few years and can not fault anything from the welcoming when you come through the front door. The therapists are very patient and go to the childs speed but also are able to keep a structure for great development. You are able to talk to them if you are having trouble, and they will work to help with home strategy so home life is more relaxed and enjoyable
