Creative Minds Counselling & Support Services is a neurodivergent-affirming hub on the Sunshine Coast, offering counselling, 1:1 support, and creative group programs for kids, teens, and adults. We provide NDIS and homeschool-friendly sessions that blend therapy, support, and creativity through art, music, anime, cosplay, Dungeons & Dragons, digital design, sensory play, and outdoor adventures. Our qualified, passionate team has lived experience in autism and neurodiversity, creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space where individuality is celebrated. Whether building social skills, emotional regulation, independence, or confidence, Creative Minds is where therapy, support, and creativity meet.

Why Choose Creative Minds?

  • Neurodivergent-affirming approach – We embrace individuality and create safe, inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued.
  • Qualified & experienced team – Our counsellors and support workers bring professional expertise and lived experience with autism and neurodiversity.
  • Creative, interest-based programs – From art, music, cosplay, anime, and Dungeons & Dragons to sensory play and outdoor adventures, we engage through passions that matter.
  • NDIS & homeschool friendly – We support self-managed and plan-managed participants, as well as families seeking alternative, affordable programs.
  • Holistic focus – We help build social skills, independence, emotional regulation, and confidence in fun, engaging ways.
  • Community connection – More than a service, we are a supportive hub for kids, teens, adults, and families across the Sunshine Coast.

Approach

Creative Minds Counselling & Support Services understands autism as a natural variation of human neurology. We recognise the strengths, creativity, and unique perspectives of autistic individuals while acknowledging the challenges that can arise in a world not always designed for neurodivergent people. Our approach is grounded in respect, acceptance, and empowerment rather than focusing on “fixing” or “normalising” individuals.

In practice, we provide services that are tailored, flexible, and strength-based. We co-create goals with participants, use interest-led activities such as art, anime, music, gaming, and outdoor play to build engagement, and prioritise safety, trust, and choice. Our staff are trained in autism-informed practice and many have lived experience, ensuring empathy and understanding. We avoid compliance-based models and instead focus on collaboration, communication, and meaningful participation.

We actively support autistic individuals to express their identity authentically—whether through creativity, special interests, or self-advocacy. We embrace stimming, diverse communication methods (verbal, non-verbal, AAC), and provide environments that reduce stress and promote comfort. Sensory needs are accommodated with quiet zones, noise-cancelling headphones, flexible lighting, movement breaks, and a choice of activities. Each participant is encouraged to explore who they are, at their own pace, in ways that feel safe and affirming.

After being badly bullied, my 15-year-old daughter became withdrawn and stopped socialising. Since joining Creative Minds, she’s found her people and is the happiest she’s ever been. A huge thanks to Sam and Kayleigh for your incredible support — you’re truly an inspiration. x

Creatives minds counseling is an answered prayer for my family. Sam has created a beautiful and safe environment where my nervous introverted teen can establish and nurture a healthy, loving and supportive community where she feels valuable and appreciated. Sam has excelled in bridging the gap for our daughter to feel part of a community that accepts her wholly and celebrates her uniqueness and encourages her flourishing and growing confidence. As a mother I am deeply grateful to Creative minds for bringing out the very best parts of my daughter. As I said before, Creative minds is an answered prayer and Sam is an absolute Angel.

I highly recommend Creative Minds! The team are passionate, dedicated and empathetic. The physical space is super inclusive, inviting and magical. Will be forever grateful for the part they have played in our family’s recovery from burn out and transition to home schooling.

Sami and team have created something special at Creative Minds. As a fellow social worker I just LOVE what the team there are all about, a safe space, a place to belong and be yourself. And always super creative and fun! Thank you so much Sami and team for all the energy, love and awesomeness you all bring to the community.
