Personalised One-on-One Swimming Lessons | AustSwim Registered Swimming Teacher

We provide personalised one-on-one swimming lessons, specialising in teaching children with additional needs.

Lessons take place in a quiet, indoor heated magnesium pool in Southport, offering a warm, comfortable, and protected environment all year round.

Our teachers follow a flexible lesson plan tailored to each child’s individual needs and abilities. We use specially designed swim visuals that clearly demonstrate each skill, helping to create structure, encourage repetition, and make learning enjoyable. Toys and swimming aids are also available when needed to support specific drills, improve focus, and build confidence in the water.

Please note that swimming lessons are no longer funded through the NDIS unless your plan specifically includes this support.

Lessons are available in either 15-minute or 30-minute sessions, with the same teacher each week to promote consistency and trust. Every lesson is individually tailored to your child’s ability, goals, and progress, ensuring a positive and supportive learning experience.

Look forward to hearing from you and helping your young one become safe and confident in water.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals

We understand that autism can present unique challenges that may affect a child's development, learning style, and confidence in the water. However, we believe every child is an individual, and we tailor our approach to meet their specific needs, abilities, and comfort levels.

Our goal is to help each swimmer become safe, confident, and happy in the water at a pace that works for them. We recognise that many autistic swimmers experience a variety of sensory sensitivities, and over the years we have developed a range of drills and strategies to help them become comfortable and successful in the aquatic environment.

We do not impose strict timeframes or schedules. What one child may achieve in a month may take another six months, and we fully embrace that journey. Progress looks different for every swimmer, and we are committed to supporting each child at their own pace.

We believe that with patience, understanding, and the right approach, anything is possible. Some children benefit from repetition and routine, while others need more detailed explanations, visual demonstrations, or physical guidance to help them understand how their body should move. Our many years of experience have equipped us with an extensive toolkit of drills, teaching aids, and engaging resources that allow us to adapt our lessons to each individual swimmer.

We place great importance on recognising and celebrating progress. Every achievement, no matter how small, is a significant step forward and deserves acknowledgement.

Our work is incredibly rewarding because we have the privilege of helping children develop important water safety skills while building confidence and enjoyment in the water. It is truly a win-win situation: children gain the skills to become capable and confident swimmers, parents gain peace of mind knowing their child is safer around water, and we have the satisfaction of supporting families on this important journey.
