I am a Clinical Psychologist with an interest in supporting neurodivergent adults and young adults (16+) to better understand themselves, embrace their uniqueness, overcome challenges and build a life based on their values. I work from a neuro-affirming, trauma-informed and strengths-based orientation.

My areas of practice include psychodynamic Self Psychology to support individuals to understand their experiences in relationships and develop their sense of identity, authenticity, and agency; CBT/DBT skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal relationships; Strategies for recovering from burnout (due to work, parenting or other demands); Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for resolving PTSD, anxiety, depression or stress relating to trauma experiences.

I also enjoy supporting parents of neurodivergent children to work through their own emotional stuck points, so they can be more present and available for their children. I have lived experience within my neurodivergent family, and I have several neuro-sparkly traits myself! I also appreciate that every neurodivergent person/family is different, so my focus is on understanding your unique lived experience to guide our work together.

Training/Certification of note: Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

Approach

Autism is a neuro-developmental difference in brain structure and function that impacts the way autistic people sense, process and relate to others in the world. Just like all brains, autistic brains have unique strengths and challenges, and even among autistic brains, everyone is different (hence - it's a spectrum). No matter what type your brain is, you deserve respect, understanding and the opportunity to thrive in this world, as authentically you. The psychological therapies that I practice (primarily person centred, psychodynamic self-psychology and EMDR) are modalities that foster and affirm ones unique self and incorporate the body, mind, emotions, spirit holistically as a part of the therapeutic experience. I do not practice traditional CBT but I do draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT, DBT, ACT) where they have a useful perspective to offer in particular situations.

On a practical level, as sensory and social sensitivities contribute to anxiety, Autistic people may find that certain movements, vocalisations or physical expression are helpful in reducing this anxiety (stimming & fidgeting are welcomed in sessions). Having sensory sensitivities myself, I have carefully considered how to make my therapy space conducive to sensory ease. However, everyone's needs are different, so I discuss your sensory needs as part of my intake process (eg. adjusting lighting, temperature, ambient noise, where possible).
