Therapy and Assessments

Kalos Therapy provides individual occupational therapy supports for children, teenagers and adults, with a particular focus on neurodivergence, including autism and ADHD. We offer practical, personalised support that considers each person’s strengths, goals, environment and everyday life.

Therapy may focus on emotional and sensory regulation, understanding their neurotype, executive functioning, daily living skills, routines, relationships, school or work participation, motor skills and greater independence. We also offer a range of assessments, including NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs), NDIS Individualised Living Options (ILO) or Supported Independent Living (SIL) assessments, autism assessments, motor assessments and sensory assessments.

Student-Led Groups

We run a variety of affordable, student-led group programs facilitated by occupational therapy students under the supervision of an experienced occupational therapist. Groups vary throughout the year and may include:

  • Ready. Set. Prep!, which supports children preparing to begin school
  • Construction Crew, a collaborative LEGO-building group focused on teamwork and communication
  • Slime Squad, a fun sensory-based slime-making session where children can take their creation home.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals

At Kalos Therapy, we understand autistic neurotypes as a natural form of human neurodiversity, rather than something that needs to be fixed or changed. Our approach is strengths-based, respectful and individualised, recognising that every autistic person has their own identity, communication style, sensory profile, preferences, strengths and support needs.

In practical terms, this means we take time to understand what matters to each person and work collaboratively with them and, where appropriate, their family or support network. We support individuals to communicate and express themselves in ways that feel natural and authentic, without expecting them to mask autistic traits or conform to neurotypical expectations.

Our therapy and assessment services consider the person within their real-life environments and explore how sensory experiences, communication needs, routines, executive functioning, emotional regulation and environmental demands may affect participation. We help identify appropriate accommodations, adapt tasks and environments, build on existing strengths, and develop practical strategies that support comfort, autonomy and meaningful participation.

Our goals are guided by the individual’s priorities. We aim to support autistic people to better understand and advocate for their needs, develop an authentic sense of identity, and participate in everyday life in ways that are sustainable and meaningful to them.
