Kids Blossom Occupational Therapy

51-55 Bulcock Street, Caloundra / Mobile

ABN/ACN:

Walking beside and guiding kids to learn new skills, overcome challenges and succeed in their daily occupations (how we spend our days) makes our hearts feel full. Our goal is to provide high-quality, individualised OT services that are shaped by evidence based, family centred, child led, neurodiversity-affirming and trauma sensitive practices.

We take a holistic approach to paediatric occupational therapy, addressing the neurodevelopmental, physical, emotional, sensory, cognitive, social and environmental needs of our clients.

At Kids Blossom OT, we are passionate about early intervention, neurodiversity, and preventing kids with seemingly mild difficulties or developmental differences from being misunderstood or slipping through the cracks. These differences or difficulties can contribute to problems at school and at home now, and as they get older.

Our goal is to have lots of fun through therapy. We use a play-based, collaborative, and child-led approach putting your child at the centre of therapy sessions. Providing them with opportunities to build the confidence to plan, make decisions, have choices, and give things a go. Children can learn about their bodies, emotions, and acquire new skills and strategies that are unique, meaningful and effective to them.

We recognise that every child is unique and requires an individualised therapy plan. We work closely with parents and caregivers to understand each child’s needs and goals, using evidence-based interventions to promote progress.

We welcome parents and caregivers to join in on sessions and enjoy working together to tailor family and child specific strategies to assist at home, school, and in the community.

Approach

At Kids Blossom OT, we view autism as a natural and valuable variation of human diversity. We recognise that barriers in the environment often create challenges for autistic individuals. We actively listen to and learn from autistic voices and advocacy groups, and we integrate this knowledge into how we work with children and families. We focus on creating safety, connection, and supporting children to thrive as their authentic selves.

Neurodiversity-affirming practice is embedded in our services by providing:
- Child-led, relationship-based sessions that honour autonomy and consent
- Collaborative goal setting with families that reflects the child’s strengths and interests
- Adapting environments e.g., modifying sensory inputs or expectations
- Strength-based focused language in documentation and communication.
- Using affirming frameworks, such as Ayres Sensory Integration® and the EASI, with an understanding of the individual’s unique sensory profile
- Ongoing professional development, including neurodiversity-affirming training and conferences

At Kids Blossom OT, we:
- Honour stims and self-regulatory behaviours
- Have flexible communication approaches
- Individualised sensory profiles developed through the EASI and clinical observation, which guide co-created sensory strategies
- Respect special interests as a pathway to connection, confidence, and skill-building
- Empower caregivers with tools and strategies to support interactions at home and in the community
