How Learn and Grow supports autistic children
1. Strengths‑based, not deficit‑focused
- Learn and Grow focuses on what your child can do and enjoys, and builds from there
- Therapy goals are based on interests, strengths, and motivation
- Skills are developed in ways that feel meaningful and achievable
- Confidence and self‑identity are protected and supported
2. Child‑led, respectful support
- Your team works with the child, not on the child
- Following the child’s lead in sessions
- Respecting their communication style (spoken, non‑verbal, AAC, gestures)
Understanding behaviour as meaningful (e.g. communication, regulation, sensory needs)
- Neuro-affirming practice focuses on understanding why a behaviour occurs, rather than trying to stop it
3. Personalised therapy (no one‑size‑fits‑all)
- Every child has a different profile, so support is tailored
- Matching the right therapist to the child
- Setting individualised goals
- Adapting therapy to suit sensory, communication and learning needs
This reflects core neuro-affirming principles of individualised, flexible support.
4. Supporting communication in all forms
- Learn and Grow values all ways of communicating
- Supporting speech, gestures, AAC, and non‑verbal communication
- Removing pressure to communicate in a “typical” way
- Helping others understand the child’s communication style
5. Building skills for real life
- Goals are functional and meaningful, including:
> Communication and connection
> Emotional regulation
> Daily living skills
> Participation at home, kindy and community
- The focus is on helping children participate and thrive, not just perform in therapy
6. Working closely with families and educators
- Therapy includes strategies parents can use at home
- The team works with families, not just the child
- Support extends beyond sessions into everyday environments
7. Creating safe, inclusive environments
- A neuro-affirming approach also means adjusting the environment:
- Considering sensory needs (noise, lighting, overwhelm)
- Creating predictable, supportive routines
- Reducing pressure to “mask” or appear typical

2 months agoWe had a wonderful experience attending Learn and Grow for an assessment for my son. Emma was very warm and engaging and helped my son feel comfortable. She was also very knowledgeable and provides us with some key insights. The facilities are very beautiful and inviting. Highly recommend this service

11 months agoMy kindergarten has been collaborating with Learn and Grow for 10 years now. The team are truly amazing! Kind and patient with all of the children they see from my centre. We are so grateful to have such a fantastic service that offers such valuable information for parents and staff. They also offer the flexibility of seeing the children at Kindy, home or at their beautiful new space in Kelvin Grove. Thank you Brooke and all the team at Learn and Grow!

11 months agoWe have had and continue to have such a wonderful experience with Learn and Grow therapies. My daughter absolutely loves her weekly home visits from Georgia for music therapy. They are a real highlight of her week. Georgia goes above and beyond for her and has become a cherished, trusted person in her life. The way Georgia runs each session is so fluid and is child led, allowing so much creativity to flow. I truly believe these sessions are increasing her confidence and allowing her to know her voice matters and is important. The ability to have these sessions in our own home also makes things work so well for our busy family. We can’t thank her and learn and grow enough!

a year agoBrooke and the team at Learn and Grow are great! Friendly and supportive. My son has worked with Emma for about 6 months and she is sooooo patient with him. She took great initiative to connect with his OT and employed many different strategies to help him focus and stay engaged through his sessions (which was very challenging!). Would highly recommend Emma, Brooke and the Lean and Grow team :)
