Welcome to Little Llamas Speech Pathology. My name is Teresa Smith and I am Paediatric Speech Pathologist is located in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast. I’m a neurodiversity affirming therapist, passionate about helping children aged 0 to 12 thrive in their communication, participation, and mealtimes. My goal is to empower parents with practical tools and strategies that support their child’s growth and confidence in communication and positive mealtime experiences.

I’m a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist and registered with Speech Pathology Australia (our national peak body).

I completed my Master of Speech Pathology at the University of Canberra. I have experience supporting children and adults with communication and swallowing disorders. I have worked across various settings, including early education, schools, clinics, home visits, aged care, and day programs.

I’m passionate about advocating for children’s communication needs, working collaboratively with families, educators, and multidisciplinary health teams (e.g. Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, GP, Pediatrician) to achieve the best outcomes for children.

My special interests include early language development, neurodivergent communicators, feeding and stuttering.

I have extensive lived experience as a neurodivergent parent, carer and advocate for my two children.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals:

Frameworks that guide my practice for neurodivergent individuals and families:

1) Neurodiversity affirming (natural diversity that exists in human neurodevelopment) - children and their families are given permission to be themselves.

2) Social model of disability (people as disabled by society, not by their impairments) - I know firsthand that challenges faced by the autistic community is because of the design and rigidity of systems (think healthcare, education, justice).

3) Emotional regulation and “felt safety” (necessary prior to engaging in complex cognitive tasks) - we can spend the necessary time your child needs to regulate in the space and they can do what makes their body feel good (so long as it is safe for them and myself)
