Play Tech Australia is a Social Tech Club designed for Autistic and Neurodivergent young people (ages 9–20) who want to build social skills in a relaxed, interest-based environment.

Here, technology becomes a bridge to connection. Whether members are gaming, creating videos, designing graphics, programming, or developing games, they can share passions, make friends, and learn together.

Our flexible, unstructured approach means there is no one “right” way to participate. We follow each young person’s interests and support them in expressing themselves, collaborating, and working on projects that genuinely motivate them.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals:

We understand autism as a natural part of human diversity. At Play Tech Australia, we value the unique ways autistic young people think, communicate, and socialise. Our approach is based on acceptance, respect, and creating environments where individuals feel safe and understood. We adapt to each young person rather than expecting them to change who they are.

We offer interest-based, flexible programs that allow young people to engage in ways that feel comfortable for them. Our sessions are unstructured and free from pressure, so participants can choose what they want to do and how they want to socialise. We focus on strengths, respect different communication styles, and provide gentle, supportive guidance rather than directing or correcting behaviour.

We support each young person to express themselves in whatever way feels natural, whether that is through technology, creativity, or quiet participation. We provide options for solo or group engagement and respect all communication styles. Sensory needs are supported through low-pressure spaces, optional quiet areas, flexible lighting, the use of headphones, and the freedom to take breaks or use sensory tools whenever needed.
