Our Services are able to be funded by NDIS, as we are registered Social Workers (registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers).

Our Equine and Animal Assisted Social Work sessions are led by trained and registered Social Workers who guide participants through safe, structured interactions with horses and other animals. These sessions are designed to help address emotional and psychological challenges while supporting personal growth and well-being. These sessions can also be tailored to support participants to meet their NDIS goals.

The goal of these sessions is to help participants better understand their thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses in a supportive, therapeutic setting. This helps individuals develop a deeper self-awareness, assists with emotional regulation and empowers participants to make choices with greater confidence and clarity in their lives.

At SCSWS, our sessions are grounded in evidence-based practices, incorporating a trauma-informed approach, neuro-affirming and client led experiential learning opportunities.

Equine Therapy and Animal Assisted Social Work Sessions are for children 5 years and older, young people and adults. No previous horse or animal experience is required.

We look forward to connecting with you and supporting you to meet your goals.

Jess and the Team

Approach

At Sunshine Coast Social Work Services, we take a neurodiversity-affirming approach to supporting autistic individuals. We understand autism as a natural variation in the human brain and value the unique ways autistic people experience, communicate, and connect with the world. Our focus is not on changing or “fixing” behaviours, but on understanding the function behind them, reducing distress, and supporting participants to thrive on their own terms.

Our services are built around flexibility, autonomy, and respect. We offer low-demand, participant-led sessions in a calming farm environment where individuals can interact with animals and engage in therapeutic activities at their own pace. This setting naturally supports regulation, reduces social pressure, and allows for safe, authentic expression. We honour preferred communication styles, support stimming and sensory needs, and work closely with families and support teams to create personalised strategies that genuinely meet the person’s needs rather than enforcing neurotypical norms.

We also actively support identity development and self-advocacy. Many of our participants explore their neurodivergent and gender identities in our sessions, and we hold space for these conversations with care and curiosity. Our team is committed to ongoing learning and reflection to ensure we continue offering safe, inclusive, and affirming support to the autistic community.
