Summary

Understanding Zoe is the first neuro-affirming App that turns every report, observation and meltdown into an actionable next step – uniting parents, educators and therapists so neurodivergent children thrive

Understanding Zoe is an Australian social enterprise created by parents, for parents. When our daughter Zoe was assessed as autistic, we walked out of her assessment feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Like so many families, we were handed a long report but very little guidance on what to do next. That personal experience inspired us to build the kind of support we wished we had : a warm, practical, and neuroaffirming companion for families navigating similar journeys.

Today, Understanding Zoe is an AI-powered, ISO-certified platform that brings the whole “care village” together : parents, teachers, therapists, and extended family. At its heart is Pip, your personalised digital coach, trained on trusted expertise and lived experience. Pip offers clear, plain-language strategies for everyday challenges, from meltdowns to school transitions, as well as celebrating your child’s strengths and progress.

Families can upload reports, log daily observations, and invite others into a secure space so everyone stays connected and informed. Teachers gain practical classroom strategies, therapists see consistent updates between sessions, and parents feel less alone with guidance available on-demand.

What makes us different is our neuroaffirming philosophy. We don’t see autism or ADHD as something to “fix”. We celebrate neurodivergent ways of thinking, being, and learning; helping every child be understood, supported, and able to thrive. At just $10 per month, Understanding Zoe is designed to be affordable, inclusive, and accessible.

Whether you are new to a diagnosis or years into the journey, we are here to lighten the load, build confidence, and make sure no parent has to figure this out alone.

Approach

At Understanding Zoe, we see autism as a natural and valuable way of experiencing the world. We don’t believe autistic children need to be “fixed” : we believe they deserve to be understood, celebrated, and supported to thrive just as they are.

Our platform was built by parents who have walked this journey themselves, so every feature is designed with real family life in mind. We take complex reports and daily observations and turn them into clear, practical strategies you can use straight away; whether it’s how to handle a tricky morning routine, support your child’s sensory needs, or share what’s working with teachers and therapists.

We encourage every child’s authentic self to shine. Families can record and share what makes their child unique (their passions, their communication style, and the routines that bring them comfort) so everyone in their “care village” is on the same page.

We also know sensory needs are central. That’s why the platform makes it easy to note down triggers and calming strategies that help your child feel safe, whether at home, school, or out in the community.

Above all, our approach is about taking away the sense of isolation and replacing it with confidence, connection, and hope. You don’t have to figure this out on your own, we’re here with you.
