Embracing Neurodiversity: Our Holistic Autism Clinic™

At More Than Able Therapy, we believe every brain is uniquely wired and wonderful. Our Holistic Autism assessment isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about understanding your child’s world from the inside out, celebrating their unique perspective, and providing a roadmap for their future.

Comprehensive autism assessments tailored to your child’s unique strengths and challenges.

Our Holistic Autism Clinic provides comprehensive assessments that go beyond basic evaluations, exploring each child’s unique sensory needs, behavioural profile, and potential co-occurring conditions. Alongside this, we offer a full spectrum of therapy supports that respect and embrace each child’s individual way of experiencing and interacting with the world while building skills and independence.

Our assessments aren’t just about recommendations—they’re about understanding. We work closely with you and your child to ensure you leave with a deeper appreciation of your child’s experience of the world. And the best part? We celebrate their brain, just the way it is.
Our approach is backed by research. The expert collaboration and integration of both clinical mental health and occupational therapy allow for a multidisciplinary team diagnostic evaluation to be high in quality and diagnostic confidence (2018, A National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Australia).

  • We dive deep: Our assessments go beyond the basics, exploring your child’s sensory needs and behavioural profile in detail. We also explore the presence of conditions like ADHD, anxiety, or other co-occurring mental health concerns.
  • We’re thorough: We use gold-standard tools like the ADOS-2 or MIDGAS, plus additional autism screener assessments. Because why settle for one when you can have two?
  • We’re experienced: Our team brings a combined two decades of expertise to the table.
  • We empower: Our reports aren’t just papers—they’re guides to understanding and appreciating your child’s unique brain.

Approach

We see autism and ADHD as neurological differences, not something that needs fixing. Autistic and ADHD children process the world differently – their nervous systems are wired for deeper processing, pattern recognition, intense interests, and different attention styles. We recognise that many traits labelled as "challenging behaviours" are actually stress responses to environments that don't accommodate their needs.

We never use compliance-based therapies or try to make children appear "less autistic" or "less ADHD." Instead, we focus on building skills while honouring how your child naturally communicates, moves, and regulates. This means supporting stimming, respecting their "no," allowing movement for focus, and finding alternatives when traditional approaches don't work. We adapt our therapy style to each child – whether that's dimming lights, offering standing desks, taking movement breaks, or communicating through their special interests. We're also PDA-aware, understanding that some children need indirect, collaborative approaches rather than direct demands. We provide coaching, advocacy support and education to parents and your child's care team, ensuring everyone understands how to support your child's unique needs.

We actively validate and accommodate sensory preferences and regulation needs – if your child needs to wear noise-cancelling headphones, bounce while thinking, fidget to focus, or take shoes off during sessions, that's perfectly fine. We help identify supports that actually work (not just what's "expected"), advocate for accommodations at school, and teach self-advocacy skills. Most importantly, we never push through distress or overwhelm. Your child's communication – whether verbal, AAC, behaviour, or body language – is always valid and respected.
