Art of Caring is a Gold Coast counselling practice offering warm, neuro-affirming support. Based at Healing Hooves Inc in Nerang — a peaceful semi-rural property — and available online, Art of Caring provides a genuine alternative to traditional clinic-based support.

The practice is led by Deb, an ACA registered counsellor (M.A.C.A. Level 1), certified LEGO-Based Therapy and LEGO Serious Play facilitator, and Art Therapist Diploma (holistic) holder, with a practice shaped by clinical training, lived experience of late diagnosis, and raising neurodivergent now young adults..

Individual counselling sessions for children (12+), teens, and adults are available in person at Healing Hooves Inc or online, making support accessible whether you’re local to the Gold Coast or prefer the flexibility and comfort of connecting from home. Sessions are person-centred, trauma-aware, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive. There’s no pressure to perform, mask, or fit a mould — support is shaped around each person’s needs, pace, and what matters most to them.

For children and teens aged 7–17, Art of Caring offers LEGO® Club — a structured therapeutic group program based on the evidence-informed LEGO-Based Therapy approach. Running at Healing Hooves Inc in Nerang, LEGO Club provides a low-pressure, interest-led space for autistic and neurodivergent young people to build social connection, communication skills, and confidence. Expressions of interest are open for ages 7-9, 10–12, 13–15 and 16+ with groups thoughtfully formed based on age and developmental stage.*

School holiday programs are also in development at Healing Hooves Inc, including creative art and craft sessions (ages 10+) and LEGO® based programs — small, low-demand, and designed with neurodivergent kids and teens in mind. If you’d like to be notified when bookings open, get in touch via the enquiry form.

Whether you’re a parent looking for support for your child or teen, or an adult seeking a space where you can just be yourself — Art of Caring is here.

Approach to supporting autistic individuals:

Art of Caring understands autism as a natural variation in human neurology — not a disorder to be fixed or a set of deficits to be corrected. Autistic individuals bring unique strengths, challenges, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world, and those differences are respected and valued here.

In practical terms, this means sessions are led by the client. There are no rigid agendas, no pressure to communicate or engage in ways that don't feel natural, and no expectation to mask or perform neurotypical behaviour. Whether working with a young person or an adult, the pace, format, and focus of sessions are shaped around what works for that individual. Online sessions offer additional flexibility for those who find in-person environments dysregulating or prefer to engage from a familiar space.

For group programs at Healing Hooves Inc, the semi-rural outdoor setting is part of the experience — a calm, lower-sensory alternative to clinical or classroom environments that many neurodivergent young people find easier to settle into. Group sizes are kept deliberately small to support individual comfort and genuine connection.

Autistic individuals are supported to express their identity authentically throughout their time at Art of Caring. This includes respecting communication preferences and allowing for self-directed engagement in group settings. Sensory needs are taken seriously — whether that means adjusting the environment, offering flexibility in how sessions run, or simply following the person's lead about what feels okay on any given day.
