Spectrum Sisters is the ONLY assessment provider in Australia that specialises entirely on female autism and ADHD, by a female-only specialist team.

We provide remote autism and ADHD assessments for women and girls across Australia. We understand that neurodiversity often looks very different in females and can be overlooked due to masking and outdated male-centric tools. Our all-female team of registered professionals — including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and allied health practitioners — combine clinical expertise with lived experience of autism/adhd. We use gold-standard assessment tools (ADOS-2, ADI-R, QbTest for ADHD) alongside a holistic exploration of personal history, strengths, and challenges, and focus on functional impacts to make our assessment reports NDIS ready.  Our service is fully remote, making assessments accessible anywhere in Australia. We are proudly neurodiversity-affirming and committed to improving outcomes for autistic women and girls across the lifespan.

Approach

Spectrum Sisters understands autism as a difference, not a disorder. We align with the social model of disability, recognising that many of the difficulties autistic people experience come from external barriers, stigma, and lack of appropriate support rather than from autism itself. We specialise in the female presentation of autism, acknowledging that girls and women often mask their traits and are frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed. Our approach is grounded in lived experience, feminist principles, and evidence-based practice, ensuring that every assessment and interaction respects autism as an integral part of identity.

We provide assessments that highlight strengths as well as challenges, ensuring autistic voices are central throughout the process. Our team is entirely female and neurodivergent-led, with both clinical training (ADOS-2, ADI-R, QbTest) and lived experience. This combination allows us to identify autism even when it is masked, while creating a safe and validating environment. Our reports are written in clear, non-pathologising language, and we avoid deficit-focused terminology such as “disorder” or “condition.” We also provide recommendations tailored to the individual’s context and values, rather than prescriptive “one size fits all” interventions.

Our assessments are designed to empower individuals to share their stories in their own way — through conversation, writing, photographs, or supporting documents. We adapt our process to suit each person’s communication preferences and sensory needs (for example, flexible appointment times, camera-off options in online sessions, breaks when needed, and providing questions in advance). We actively validate and normalise autistic identity, encouraging self-expression without judgement. Where appropriate, we highlight strengths such as creativity, focus, empathy, and resilience, helping individuals to embrace their authentic identity and advocate for their own needs confidently.
